26/5/1-27/5/10 Dissolving Localities (Israel/USA) A production of The Lab – Center for Performing Arts, Jerusalem
An international collaboration between American and Israeli sound and visual artists Dissolving Localities is an examination of locality, identity, interpretation and objectivity through sound and video.
The six artists involved in the project will record sound and video samples in Jerusalem and their cities of origin
and then perform these recordings, focusing on basic elements which make up the city such as sounds of nature,
people, industry etc, focusing on each through their own interpretations and styles.
The idea behind this project is to create an alternative “environment”, which on the one hand creates a multi-voiced group
which speaks at the same time and on the other hand allows the focusing on the individuals who make up the “environment”
much like a “real” city. Thus a “new” city is created, a new “environment” which offers a fresh perspective on Jerusalem,
its beauty, richness and uniqueness, while at the same time examining the idea of “locality”, “objectivity” and “interpretation”.
The artists involved are: Greg Davis, Ran Slavin, Koen Holtkamp, Yair Etzioni, Rafael Anton Irissari and Ido Govrin.
